Living the "Good News"

Sal and I have been discussing this a lot lately...
While the good news of what Jesus did is certainly the only way that we as sinners can relate to God, it should also effect how we relate to other people. Along the same line, while the good news of Jesus should be preached to all, it should also be lived for all to see. So...

Good news of Jesus: How we relate to GOD--How we relate to MAN
Good news of Jesus: How it should be PREACHED--How it should be LIVED

I think we are pretty clear on the first part of these implications (GOD/PREACHED), what I am wondering about is the second part of these implications. (MAN/LIVED)

I am posing this question to all of you hoping for your answer to be as specific as possible.

What does it mean to you to "live the Good News?" What are some specific implications of the "good news" in our everyday lives?

I'm glad Clifton put this out there for the Roth family to comment on. I hope it is not an intimidating question, as you are all seasoned in the faith I would say and would have something to say because you know Him.

I have lots of ideas about what this might look like. I'm mostly convinced that it doesn't look anything like "us". If the gospel is the good news about God sending a Savior to rescue us from sin and to redeem us for Himself, then "living the gospel" must have something to do with living like Jesus lived. It is so foreign to us. I think it has to do with giving up self, all the time, and not being satisfied with ourselves that at least "this time" we were unselfish, because Jesus NEVER thought of Himself. He only thought of the Father's will and others. I think it has to do with graciousness.
I think it has to do with caring enough to see past the surfacey part of people into their hearts. "Inside Eyes" we like to call it. It is so hard. I am struggling right now in relating with my sister Penny. I am in complete disagreement with her lifestyle and condemnation comes real easy. But maybe I'm the only person who will carry the light to Penny today, how dare I condemn her, that's not my job. But then, what do I talk with her about? I avoid calling her because I don't want to talk to her. I'm convinced that until my self-righteous thoughts about who she is and where she is change, I won't have anything to talk to her about.
Being living pictures of the story of God's redeeming love! What a high calling. What a challenge.

Clif, Dad has been preaching on this very thing on Sun eve out of the book of Eph's so I asked him to write something on it . I will try to have it before the first of the week.
On another note, Curtis called today and he is back at home base and doing well. Praise the Lord for answers to our prayers. I'm sure ou will all be hearing from him soon.
Sally, I just looked over and read your comment again and it reminded me of what Dad talked about tonight at prayer Mtg. We have been studying I Corin. 13 and verse 7 says that love beareth all things, beleiveth all things, hopeth all things and endureth all things.
The beareth all things is to cover sin not hide it but to keep it covered and not go around talking about it .This would apply to the church family and within a family.
Believeth all things applies to beikng positive and rejoicing in the truth as refered to in vs 6 and not rejoicing in sin.
Hopeth all thinngs refers to a confident expectation . Love faaces situations full of hope.
Love never drops the rope. You have Penny's rope and you may be the only person holding that rope,so you need to hold on and never give up.
Endures all tings means you refuse to give up in a situation good or bad,. It has to do with things, health, bad treatment, etc.
And Love never fails. It is for sure a selflesskind of love. The only ones who ever showed the kind of love in I Corin. is God the Father and God the Son. They are the examples we are to follow and strive to be like.It may be that the only thing you can tell Penny is that you love her and you are praying for her. Jesus loves us He doesn't love our sin but it doesn't change His love for us.
Well, so much for my chatter.
I love you all and I pray for you all daily. Mom

Thanks very much for those encouraging words! I wanted to give all a report I've talked to Penny every day this week. She has called and we have had super good conversations. She seems to be in a much better place in her life than she has been the past months.

Clif and I are off to the Elizabeth George "A Women After God's Own Heart" Conference. We are driving to Richmond and while I am at the conference Clifton plans to work on a paper at the hotel! He's sweet for taking me!

Love you all! Isn't the fall season so beautiful this year! Today is the most beautiful day so far in Virginia! Hey, is it going to be snowing in Wisconsin when we come? Looking forward to that trip! Can't wait to see all those babies!

hey guys! go ahead sally rub it in. all the the good weather huh? well the weather if you want to call it that has been cooler but still hot. anyway things are well here. the comments on this page have helped me greatly. last night i had a 90 min conversation with the guys over some topics in the Bible. i was able to share the gospel several times. thank God for the chance to share my faith. i hope that the other guys that were there heard the conversation and that the seed was planted. i pray for more opportunities to talk to the guys about Christ. everybody in my squad has an understanding of the gospel. they just have not accepted it yet. please pray that my life would refect the gospel to these guys. i know that i am weak in that area of my life and this blog has really helped me to see were i need to ask God to help me.
in other news please pray for lauren. she got a new used car and it has some problems. we are hoping that they will be able to find them and fix them. it is still under warranty so we dont have to pay for it. they said they might to put a new engine in it so that would be really nice but whatever. just pray that it gets fixed and runs a really long time. i am starting to miss home alot and it seems constantly on my mind. pray that i can concentrate on my job here and not let it get in my way. i love you all. and miss you all.

Thanks for the fun song! I think I used to sing that one when I was your age! :) Sorry I didn't notice your comment until now! Thanks for the little note. I can't wait to see your hair. Isn't it so much easier to take care of short! No tangles to brush out. :) Things are going well for us here. We are hoping to get down to DC and take some pictures while the fall leaves are so beautiful!
Love you very much! Hope you have a nice week. :)
