hey everybody, hope you enjoy the pics. those coffee cans turned on their side is what we live in. the sunsets are quite amazing. the other pic is what i wear when we are out training for iraq. doesnt it look so comfortable. the only thing i need is an a/c unit to carry on my back. but i guess it could save my life one day so i wear it. i love you all and miss you every day. i will try to call each one of you sometime in the next week. love you all and thanks for your prayers.

Curtis,
I've enjoyed hearing your comments on the blog recently! We love you and miss you too.
Although your outfit doesn't look comfy :), it sure does look like something a soldier would wear. You are that, a soldier. It is thought provoking and scary and something to take pride in for us all I'd say. As we know from our spiritual walks with the Lord (and the armor of God lessons we were all taught as children), being a soldier isn't meant to be comfortable. It is not for ourselves that we engage in battle, it is the name of Jesus Christ our Lord that we represent and it is His banner we wave. So, similarly as you have committed to be a soldier for our country, you will prepare, fight, and engage in battle for a purpose that is so much bigger than yourself.
I'm sure you have already learned a lot about being a soldier that is applicable to you in your spiritual life. And I pray you will continue to. As I see you dressed as a soldier, far away from your family and loved ones, disciplining yourself and preparing for a battle you may soon engage in, I hope I will continually be challenged to remember, as I have today, that I am a soldier as well, although I don't have to wear that suit you do, I must put on the armor of God daily. I must be alert and preparing for the battle I am required to engage in every day.
It gets hard somedays and we get real tired of the uncomfortable uniform and job that requires selflessness and sacrifice, but hopefully we'll be able to encourage each other as we are all soldiers, representing a great cause, a kingdom, our Lord.
So, anyway, that's my long drawn out thought for the day!
Thanks Curtis. For being a soldier. May God protect your daily and may He continue to develop you as a soldier of the cross alongside your training as an American soldier.

sally, thanks for the encouraging words. i am doing well. although the days seem to get hotter and hotter. today i drove a hmmvee for what seemed like forever. part of the great Marine Corps training i recieve on beautiful 29 palms. anyway, we have started a Bible study for the Marines who want to know more. though some of them dont like to be called soldiers when talking about spiritual warfare because they have been taught from day one that anything associated with the military should be Marines because thats what they are. we were trying to come up with a name for our group and the word soldier got shot down pretty quick. but on a serious note, please pray for the guys that come. some of them think that coming is going to keep them alive in iraq. a kind of convience God. we have shared the gospel on several occasions, so pray that the seed will grow.
i will be going to al asad with 1st or 2nd lar (light armor recon.). we will probably be patroling the syrian border. mom and dad know more than i can write so call them otherwise if you have any questions i will be trying to make my family calls this week sometime so you can ask them then. well i got to get going back to my coffee can. i love you all.
